The Rosedale Plantsman's Recommended Trees and Shrubs for Privacy Screening

Recommended Trees & Shrubs for Privacy Screening

It is worth remembering that you can create very effective and reasonably priced screening with both Evergreen and Deciduous trees and shrubs. For example, the suggested Deciduous trees and shrubs have dense branches and leaves, and can be used for where warm weather privacy is important, but where winter screening is not essential. In addition, certain Deciduous plants can provide better screening in wet soils (where may Evergreens would not grow well), or where Evergreens might look unnatural or grow too large.

Except as noted (see "Key" below), the following trees and shrubs grow well in full sun or with at least 1/2 day of full sun. Some as noted also tolerate or grow well in shade.

Key:

* = Grows well in either full sun/light shade or partial shade (1/2 day direct sun)
** = Grows well in light or partial shade, moderate shade, or full shade
W= Tolerates damp/wet soils
